The 2026 Volta a Catalunya opened with an intense and tactical first stage, setting the tone for the race ahead. With the finish positioned on a short uphill drag, the stage quickly evolved into a high-speed battle in the closing kilometers.
In the uphill sprint to the line, Dorian Godon of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale delivered a powerful and perfectly timed finish to narrowly defeat Remco Evenepoel and take the stage victory. After launching an early long-range sprint, Tom Pidcock held on to secure third place.

Evenepoel Responds from Behind
As Pidcock began to fade in the final meters, Remco Evenepoel surged forward from behind with high speed. At the same time, stage favorite Dorian Godon accelerated to join the fight. In the final meters, the stage victory came down to a direct sprint duel between Godon and Evenepoel.
