2026 Vuelta a España Stage 20–21 Race Report: Landa Wins Queen Stage as Enric Mas Claims Overall Victory

The 2026 Vuelta a España reached its decisive final weekend on September 12–13, with the race's penultimate mountain stage followed by the grand finale in Granada.
On September 12, Spanish rider Mikel Landa produced a memorable solo performance to win Stage 20 at the summit of Collado del Alguacil. At the same time, Enric Mas successfully defended the red jersey and strengthened his position at the top of the general classification.
The following day, September 13, Tobias Halland Johannessen won the final stage in Granada after beating Alessandro Romele and Ramses Debruyne in the sprint from a late breakaway.

Richard Carapaz, Felix Gall and Sepp Kuss were among the riders who launched important attacks during the stage. Their aggressive racing caused significant changes within the general-classification group and helped break the peloton apart.
At the front of the race, Mikel Landa emerged as the strongest rider from the breakaway. The Soudal Quick-Step rider attacked with approximately seven kilometers remaining on the final climb and gradually opened a decisive gap.

Despite the intense attacks around him, Enric Mas remained composed throughout the final climb. He crossed the finish line 6:57 behind Landa but successfully protected his overall advantage.

A late breakaway created the opportunity for the stage victory, with Tobias Halland Johannessen, Alessandro Romele and Ramses Debruyne emerging as the key contenders.
The three riders entered the closing kilometers with the stage victory still undecided. Johannessen ultimately proved the fastest in the final sprint and crossed the finish line first to claim the final stage of the 2026 Vuelta.
