The 2026 UCI Road World Championships Enter a Rest Day
On September 23, the 2026 UCI Road World Championships entered a rest day in Montréal, Canada.
The Championships officially began on September 20 and will run through September 27, featuring 13 world championship events across Elite, Under-23 and Junior categories, including individual time trials, the mixed team relay and road races. Montréal is hosting the UCI Road World Championships for the second time, following the 1974 edition, and this marks the third time Canada has hosted the event.
After the first three days of competition, the rainbow jerseys in the Elite men's and women's individual time trials, the Under-23 individual time trials, the mixed team relay and the Junior individual time trials had all been awarded.
There was no official road race competition on September 23, with the Championships taking a short break between the time-trial and road-race phases. Riders and national teams used the day to recover and prepare for the demanding road races ahead.
According to the official schedule, the road-race programme resumes on September 24 with the Women's Under-23 road race and the Men's Junior road race.

The Time-Trial Phase Comes to an End as Multiple Nations Claim Rainbow Jerseys
The time-trial phase of the 2026 UCI Road World Championships concluded with several riders and teams securing rainbow jerseys.
In the Elite Women's Individual Time Trial, Switzerland's Marlen Reusser successfully defended her world title. In the Elite Men's Individual Time Trial, Belgium's Remco Evenepoel also retained his title, making history by becoming the first rider to win the Elite men's individual time-trial world championship four consecutive times.
The Under-23 individual time trials also produced new world champions. Australia's Felicity Wilson-Haffenden won the Women's Under-23 Individual Time Trial, while the Netherlands' Ryan Gal claimed the Men's Under-23 title.
On September 22, the final three time-trial titles were awarded. Italy won the Mixed Team Time Trial Relay, while Spain's Benjamín Noval and Poland's Maria Okrucińska won the Men's and Women's Junior Individual Time Trials respectively.
With the time-trial programme now complete, attention has shifted toward the road races, where riders will compete for the remaining rainbow jerseys.

UCI Congress Held in Montréal
Although there was no road-race competition on September 23, the day remained significant for international cycling.
The 195th UCI Congress was held in Montréal on September 23 as part of the 2026 UCI Road World Championships. Delegates from UCI member National Federations gathered to review major developments in cycling and vote on issues that will shape the future of the sport.
The Congress also focused attention on the future organisation of the UCI Road World Championships and the wider development of international cycling.
The 2026 Championships themselves are being staged in Montréal from September 20 to 27, with the event also forming part of celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the 1976 Montréal Olympic Games.

The Focus Now Turns to the Road Races
Following the September 23 rest day, the 2026 UCI Road World Championships will move into the road-race phase on September 24.
The Women's Under-23 road race and Men's Junior road race will be among the first road events of the programme. The races will take place on courses featuring the demanding Montréal terrain, including the signature climb that has become one of the defining features of the Championships.
The remaining road races will follow over the subsequent days, with the Elite Women's and Elite Men's road races representing the main highlights of the final weekend.
The Elite Men's Road Race will bring the Championships to a conclusion on September 27. The demanding course is expected to test riders over a long distance and repeated climbs, with the Montréal circuit playing a decisive role in the battle for the final rainbow jersey.
As the rest day comes to an end, the focus of the 2026 UCI Road World Championships shifts from the individual fight against the clock to the tactical and physical battle of the road races.
The remaining rainbow jerseys will be decided over the next several days, as riders from around the world compete for the most prestigious titles in road cycling.
