May 31, 2026 – The 109th Giro d’Italia concluded in Rome, Italy. After three weeks, 21 stages, and 3,466 kilometers of intense racing, Jonas Vingegaard (Visma | Lease a Bike) defended the pink jersey to claim his first Giro d’Italia title, winning by 5 minutes and 22 seconds. The Dane completed the historic Triple Crown of cycling’s Grand Tours. Meanwhile, Italian sprint star Jonathan Milan took the final stage victory on Rome’s streets, delighting home fans.

A Champion’s Parade Through Rome
Stage 21 covered 131 kilometers, starting and finishing in central Rome. In true Giro tradition, the first half of the stage was a celebratory procession for the champion and his team. Riders posed for photos, toasted, and soaked in cheers from Italian fans. The pace picked up as the race entered Rome’s city-center circuits, with sprint trains lining up for the final bunch sprint.
With the overall standings already settled by the decisive Piancavallo summit finish the previous day, GC teams rode safely to the finish, shifting focus entirely to the sprint showdown.

Milan Lands Long-Awaited Stage Win
Lidl-Trek had come close to stage glory multiple times in this Giro, only to fall short. On the final day, Jonathan Milan delivered.
In the final kilometer, the Lidl-Trek train controlled the front of the peloton. Launched perfectly by his teammates, Milan sprinted clear and held off rivals to cross the line first, claiming his maiden stage win of the race. Giovanni Lonardi (Polti VisitMalta) took second, and Paul Penhoët (Groupama-FDJ) finished third.
The victory eased Milan’s earlier sprint frustrations and capped the Giro with a fairytale ending for Italian fans in Rome.
